Power for a Stewart RS3

Hello

I just purchased some Stewart Hobbies RS3 shell kits from a local modeller.They are just the shell kits with no drives.I remember reading some where that Athearn drives will fit in these shells.If this is correct which drive is it?My guess would be the GP9 drive but this is only a guess.I cannot use the instructions that would normally be with the shells as I got 6 shell kits in a box without any instructions.The seller said they had gotten thrown out.I looked on Stewart Hobbies web site but no luck there for instructions or drive info.These shells are the phase 3 type and are not that old.Any info or pointers to articles in magazines or on the web would be very helpful.my plan for these shells is to model some Canadian National RS3's.Thanks.

The frame that fits is Stewart #1076 (sold out) and you would want fuel tank #1077 (available).

Many people use Atlas/Kato or MDC RS3 chassis with Stewart shells. There are some good prices on ebay. On the MDC, make sure you get the "NEW IMPROVED" drive, it is clearly marked on the label.

Thanks for the response.I had thought of the MDC RS3 drive but was not to sure.It is funny you also mention Bear Locomotive as I was surfing the net tonight looking for any info that may help me and came across thier site.I will call my favorite hobby shop in the morning an order a MDC RS3.Now that I have an idea on what drives to use I can get this project on the go.Thanks.

I am going the Atlas/Kato route becaue I already have them. Jim Six went the MDC/Roundhouse route.
