It is not neccesarily neccesary but a lot of us have become enthralled with modeling the prototype. We have our favorite and we model it and some of us gotten to the point that we want to model the operation as much as we like modeling the cars and engines. You don't have to run your trains this way. That's what is greaat about this hobby is it's so flexible. If you enjoy just watching trains go around in circles that's ok but if you want to model opreations you cana do that too. neithre way is the right way to model. Just run your trains in the manner you enjoy.

why is it necessary to have a running session from yard to yard?
