My personal favorite is the Cincinnati, Georgetown & Portsmouth. You may not have heard of them because they were a short line that went out of business in 1936. There are a few reasons I like them. They operated an even shorter line called the Batavia & Felicity (less than 10 miles of track counting the yard and wye) that went out of business in 1933 but the abandoned track was about 100 feet from the house I grew up in. On my layout the CG&P never went out of business. This is my ticket into fantasy land. If I like a locomotive and it was not normally seen in southern Ohio well don’t ya know the CG&P bought one second hand.

I am detailing and repainting some old ConCor passenger cars I got cheap off eBay. I am no where near talented enough to match a real prototype paint job but they will look just right for the CG&P.

Modeling a defunct railroad is very liberating.

I ship all my peaches, plums, and grapes on the Southern Pacific in those lovely PFE reefers. [:D]

You're not the only ATSF fan, I am too! It's just that the Grande comes first with me...[:D]
The love is there though, my Joint Line modeling proves it.[:D]

WEZZ,
You have access to the Internet. Use it for your research tool. All of the active 'Class 1' rail systems have web sites and the NMRA 'links' page or maybe even Trains.Com has listing.

All I ever ship is/are contracts that need to be in someone else's office the next day so I use either FedEx or UPS. This poll does not really make sense.

Well George, the shipping manager at the warehouse where I use to work preferred to use a short line or regional(he had past experience with a regional) over any major carrier however,he uses NS Triple Crown services.

Why would I care about shipments by rail anyway? This is my hobby and not my job.

This has got to be a really stupid poll! Individuals rarely ship by rail, and 9 of the rail systems listed do not even exist any more.
