Use a mix of plaster (about the consistancy of pancake batter)as a plaster-to-plaster adhesive. However, be sure to wet the back of the rock casting and the surface of the scenery shell with water before applying the "adhesive" plaster. This will keep mix wet enough to work the excess "adhesive" that will ooz around the casting. Use a bru***o blend the profile of the casting to the scenery shell. Keep a spray bottle of water handy to heep things wet enough to work the profile to the desired finish.
I have used this method on Hydrocal and various other plasters.

Hello Gary,
I prefer to use Sculptamold, which I purchase through Walthers and sometimes at my local hobby shop if they carry it. It's a paper-and-glue-based product. Sculptamold also has worked well for me when attaching rock castings to carved extruded form board.
In addition to securing rock castings to the scenery base, I've also carved rock strata into Sculptamold and even have used it as a scenery base over screen wire.
Hope this helps,
Paul Schmidt

What were you glueing the castings to? Other castings? Plaster? Styrofoam? Cardboard? Does hot glue work for all of these?

What is the best adhesive to use for glueing plaster rock castings in place on the layout, particularly to the plaster scenery shell?
