Signal Circuits
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, June 10, 2005 8:48 PM
Looking for help from anyone in the know ...

I'm a relative new comer to signalling a model railway, though I've got a pretty good understanding of the prototype.

I'm operating a DCC system and am looking at how I can properly operate a crossing loop (passing siding in the US) with tri-coloured LED searchlight signals.

I have the signals ready to go. My points (turnouts) are all manually thrown (piano wire under the baseboard).

What do I need to set up signals relative to turnout position and direction of train? Is there a good source of info on the web?

Any help would be geatly appreciated!

I've got a friend who's layout is signaled with Digitrax boards. You might give them a call or check out their website. Working signals are WAY cool.

Rob likes to use 556 timers. WHy? Because they are cheap, plentiful, and far more robust them CMOS.

I have nothing against CMOS, my first computer was actually all CMOS (RCA chips). And it's wonderful stuff for lower power. But to claim circuits are 'outdated' because they don;t use CMOS...

Depending on your DCC system (actually not, the Digitrax SE8C can work with any system, it's totally independent of the track), there are pre-canned solutions. If your DCC system supports a computer interface, look at PanelPro that's part of the JMRI FREE software for the pc side of things.
