I know what you mean. I am fortunate in that my Mum provided me with a couple of photo ablums a few Christmases ago, and in it she placed photos of my youth. I have a few that show me at the controls of a much earlier Christmas present to me and my brothers. It was a Marklin steamer and a little diesel switcher, both of the German roads, a couple of long passenger cars, and lost of green sawdust and cloth with papier-mache. It was probably the most memorable Christmas present of my life (except for the guitar....but that's another story [B)]). When I look at what I have accomplished just since mid-January, I have come a long way.

Cheers.

"Hey selector". Thanks for the compliment. To answer your question. As the hobby progressed and I made more room, it got "phased out"... I ended up stripping all of the goodies off of it, and if memory serves me right, tossed it in the dumpster at work. I know. What a terrible thing to do, but it served its purpose to me, and like a burned out old light bulb I did away with it. Like I said in my original posting. The layout was 3 X 4 feet, was covered with green grass matt, had an oval track with a small town in the middle and a styrofoam store bought tunnel on one end. I think at that time the only engines I owned was a Life Like Santa Fe GP-38 and a Model Power F-7 along with about ten or twelve cars and a couple of cabooses. I really thought I had something... If I could travel back in time and show myself then what I have now I'm sure I'd have probably fainted-especially when I found out what I have tied up in it money wise.

Keep them trains a runnin...

Back in the late 80s when I started getting back into model railroading, I lived in a small apartment and didn't have a lot of room, so I built a small 3 X 4 foot N scale layout with a handle on one side that I could carry around and store where ever I had room for it (most of the time under the bed). Everything was glued and pinned down to the surface, and I had storage boxes mounted to the ends to hold my engines and rolling stock. I was really proud of myself at the time because I felt it was really unique.
