They do, and I've seen them, but in good shape, apinted, $400 isn't out of the question for a Max Gray or an OMI unit (the two examples I've seen). I'm assuming you're looking for one that came from the initial 22 sent to the SP, and not one of the 57 made for the T&NO?

You're best bet will probably be eBay.

Balboa made an MK-5 in the 60's. I would imagine those would go for about $350-400 today.

You might be able to come close with an MDC SP style cab on a Mantua 2-8-2 chassis with detailing to suit. You could use the Spectrum Medium Vanderbilt tender (oil). It wouldn't be an exact replica, but would probably satisfy the 3 foot rule.

Keep watching E-Bay. While many times a particular item will exceed your spending limit eventually you will most likely find what you want at a price inside your budget. My secret look for auctions ending in the AM early in the week.

Yes, Aggro, I have one. Nicely custom painted by Lee, the young man that used to work at Bruce's and died last year of cancer. Balboa, open-frame motor. You could probably shoot a NWSL can into it as it whines a little. Pulls quite nicely, runs pretty smooth. E-mail me at Hoofus42@aol.com and we can talk.

Aggro,
Hope you can connect with Tom and work out a deal with him. I also have the Balboa MK-5 that he mentioned and it is indeed a very good pulling loco. I'm sure a NWSL can motor would be almost a "drop-in" with a little tinkering. I still have the open frame motor in mine and it is a bit noisy as Tom said but not objectionly so. Mine is not for sale but thought you might like to hear about what a good running and very well detailed (for its age) loco this is.

Dave--that's an MT-5, which is a 4-8-2, not a Mike. But thanks for the link, BTW, it's unusual to see an SP Mountain without the skyline casing. if Aggro doesn't go for it, I might, LOL1

Er....yeah...I knew that.

Actually, I was looking for SP mountains with skyline cashings, and for some reason I got scrambled and posted that here. That's my 3rd posting error here, I think I need to turn the computer off before I get tired...

Try DON BLACK BRASS TRAINS they have are in the ebay brass auctions all the time or visit thier website I was very happy with my deal with them, thier website has photos and prices so you can get a pretty good idea of what and how much. Mitchell's is another good outfit to deal with, thier website has photos and prices too.
