Has anyone purchased this loco and if so how is it performing? Have heard some are not up to standard and have to be sent back.

I know of a couple of people with them on order in our local model railroad club. I will maybe have some information tomorrow evening after our club meeting.

Only that it weighs in at 17 ounces and operates on 18" radius and has an optional traction tire.

I've seen it at the LHS. Not so impressive. Its a pretty plain looking steamer, I don't know why I was expecting more. The main driver floats higher than the rest of them.

Aggro--most of the UP steamers I've seen pictures of are pretty plain. Utilitarian, but that's about it, except for the 4-12-2 with front-hung pumps. I think they saved their good locomotive lines for the FEF's, Challengers and Big Boys (and even then, I think they're pretty plain, but that's just me.)
