How frustrated....
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, June 5, 2005 8:54 PM
Hello!!
As I was working on my layout; Colorado & New Mexico Lines, I was thinking in future of what kind of trains I would want to run. I've already gotten a few of them, but the latest one is just sooo frustrating. I don't know why. But anyways, how frustrated has anyone gotten?

I used to not be opposed to smashing somthing or blowing it up with an m-80.
But I've mellowed with age (like a fine wiskey). Stuffs just too $$$$$ to wreck so I eather set it aside till I'm in the mood to hastle with it again, or I part it out and incorperate it into my layout. Theres always room for more junk on a railroad!

Temporary frustration is part of the hobby--at least for me. I've come away from the hobby shop with a new purchase, built it, put it on the layout and then suddenly wondered, "What in H*** was I THINKING?!" The best solution is to just leave it alone for a while, work on something else, run your trains, do anything. Then come back to it. Suddenly it looks a lot better. This happened to me a couple of years ago when on a whim I bought a BLI Norfolk and Western 'A' 2-6-6-4. I model Denver and Rio Grande Western. What in God's name did I need with an EASTERN articulated? But then after I ran it and grew to like it, I just used the excuse, "Hey, it's WWII and the Rio Grande is power-short, and so they borrowed it." Works for me. No matter how initially frustrated you get, you can eventually find an excuse for ANYTHING, LOL!

I've had my share of frustration with this hobby over the years. Things like buying an engine only to discover I can't find a caboose or passenger cars for it that I end up having to kit-bash. Wiring problems that just suddenely appear for no reason when everything was working fine yesterday. And the list goes on and on... Like twhite said. Frustration is just part of this hobby. Ain't it fun...

Good luck to you.

What is it that you find frustrating, zachar?

Some call 'em problems, others call 'em challenges--if it was easy, would it really be worth doing?

I tell myself, "god obviously doesn't want me workin on the layout tonight." and shut all the lights off and go back upstairs....

I've been there, your not alone. Just walk away from it for a bit then come back with a clear head.
