Thanks, Chip!

The frame was cobbled together from some 2X8s cut on a table saw, and I put together the graphic in Photoshop 4. The cover is a thin sheet of lexan I picked up at Lowes. I put the whole thing on a three-shelf castered metal kitchen rack. There are about five feet of extra wire where it exits the benchwork, so the panel can be easily rolled around as is convenient.

Brunton,

That has to be one of the nicest control panels I've seen.

Simon,
They look great. "Big Picture" huh? I'm gonna have to check that out.

Chuck,
Hopefully they get it out for good soon.

the fire is still burning..they had it out for about 10 minutes on Friday, but it ignited again and is still burning...they say it could burn for a month...it's really hard to go outdoors right now...the air is pretty foul and there is ash on everything...chuck

Simon, who makes the "Big Picture" software[?]

I got it from e-Bay. If you do an e-Bay search for "big picture" several vendors come up.

This is the web site for the application, but the e-Bay prices are lower.

Here's the control panel for the NP portion of my layout (all of which will be hidden staging - including both the Seattle and Minneapolis yards - except for the Laurel area).

Here's an overall view of most of the layout with track laid. The station is at Laurel. The yard in the foreground is Seattle. The Minneapolis yard, which doesn't even have subroadbed down in this photo, will be on the benchwork across the back aisle from Laurel, and wrap around along the side wall to the left. Ignore the rather unprototypical Big Sky Blue passenger cars behind the Burlington Doodlebug in Seattle yard - I just stuck them on there for laughs.

Great stuff guys![:D]
Simon, who makes the "Big Picture" software[?] It looks to be just what I have been looking for. I want to make a few sections of backdrop for my BRVRR. [banghead]The first photo below is an example of one of the backdrop scenes I would like to make.
I am still working on my AMD 103 and trying to fine tune my under-table sound decoder installation so I don't have any modeling photos to post. Here is a 1:1 scale photo I took on the first of June. The Conrail loco headed up a inter modal hot-shot east bound on the CSX/NS main line on the Cleveland lake shore.

Early on in this thread someone mentioned CSX cabeese. I don't know if CSXT 904003 qualifies, but I took this photo on the Cleveland waterfront in January of 05. Most of the way cars/cabeese you see, if you see any at all, are beat up pretty badly, but this one must have just come from the shop.

More on my website. Link is in my signature.
Keep up the good work guys. You are inspiring.[:D]

Remember its your railroad

Here's a few pics of the latest project, a factory background flat using Walther's Modular kits. I added some details (downspouts, pallets, folklift, etc), and set and old water tower in there. The tower isn't really appropriate for the era, so I condemned it and set up some orange "quick fence" around it. I also put some chain link fencing along the retaining wall to head off any HO scale litigation later on.

The next building flat project is going on the rise where the trucks are sitting.

Tom- One thing i have learned about myself with model railroading is that i can become very impatient. This layout I'm trying to catch myself and think out everything and do it right. I find my money woo's (i work seasonal jobs. i work for my college baketball and football teams in the winter and an outdoor concert venue in the summer, plus I work at my lhs when he needs an extra body. So right now is off season for me where I have to watch what i do with my money more.) have helped me out. Instead of getting roadbed today and jumping into that I bought a couple track gauges and started drawing out my curves and making sure my track on my yard where straight as an arrow. It also gave mee time to clean the layout area all the way to a fresh coat of paint on the walls So when i do get into laying roadboad it's all set up and will be much easier. So hopefully I can finally get to the scenery portion. Here are a couple photo's of some earlier layouts.

hopefully when i posts pictures next week you'll see the difference a coat of paint can do!

Andrew--You'd be amazed at how long MY layout was in the pink foam stage (some of it still is) and how many photos I posted, anyway. That's the wonderful thing about this weekend posting, we all get to see how we're all progressing. Hope you can get a new digital soon--they're not bad in price these days for a good basic one. Looking forward to seeing some pics of your layout, soon.

Once again a beautiful round of photos. I'm impressed by the ingenious(spelling?) backdrop simon came up with. I'm itching to post pictures in one of these unfourtanitly my brother broke the family digital camera so I can't take pictures anymore. I guess I'll just have to go by film for old camera. Iit's probably for the best since my layout is still in the pink foam stage. We'll maybe next week end I'll have some photos to add. the worst part of this hobby for me is having the time and energy to work on my layout but not having the funds to buy what i need.

You need to upload the pics to a photo hosting site and then link to them. The link address will go between the bracketed img, /img.

They sure add to the detail of your pics.

I've got a friend who's RR is signaled. He keeps telling me to switch to Digitrax and use their boards to drive signals with. Also, with a PC and transponding I could keep track of trains in staging (and on the road) via a CTC screen fed from the same circuit boards. It sounds pretty enticing to me.

As the signals on your railroad operational? If so, what sytem do you use to control them?

They're operational to the point where they light up, LOL! Actually, the two semaphores on Yuba Pass are rail-connected, and the two and three light target signals on the rest of the layout are operated directionally by toggle switches I've hidden on the fascia. Which means when I change my mind about direction, I have to run around and change the toggles on the signals. Keeps me active.[:D][:D]
