AMD-103 or P40/42??? Need some Clarification!

AMD-103 orginally stood for "AMTRAK Diesel - 103 MPH" , and was used in the development of the loco for AMTRAK. "Genesis" came from a contest for the new AMTRAK loco, of all things!

AMTRAK engineers, rejecting both of the above, started calling it a "P40" (P for "passenger"), as the GE designation could have been a Dash 8-P40BWH.

"P42"s are newer models.
They are not really phase 2 (which would make sense! ). The actual Phase 2s were the P32AC-DMs, or AMD-110s, but no model maker I know of uses those terms!

I think the P40/42 is the best thing to call them.

My understanding is that AMD-103 is either another term for the P-40 or an umbrella term for the entire GE Genesis passenger locomotive line.

Hi,

Basically any locomotive (Amtrak) in the 800 series is a P40, P42's are 1-207 and P32s are in the 700 series.

I've taken some pictuers of a brass Amtrak AMD-103 by Overland Models. I'm not quite sure of the correct name of this engine but it looks a lot like a P40 or is that what the Amd-103 is. The Amtrak phase 4 loco is also n scale and is made by Kato. I have many more pictures of the Amd-103 as well as the Kato P42 showing the details, which I'll post soon. These pictures take a long time to upload so I'll post them 5 at a time. Later.
