I enjoy the laying out, putting down roadbed and track, tying it all together with wiring to get trains to run! After all that I prefer to operate sound equipped locos prototypically, using car cards, TT and TO operations.

I do like some parts better than others; I'd hafta put benchwork and wiring well down the list, right among filing points and reconfiguring CVs when I've ****ed up and had to do a reset (don't know what I'd do if Randy hadn't kindly sent me some instructions on setting my loco address). But, even those are necessary steps towards my enjoyment of running them purdy streamers past my layout-level nose and eyes.

So, I do enjoy it all. No, really ! [;)]

I dislike wiring the most because I can work for a solid month on wiring and then when the guys come over to the monthly op session they say:

"Say, doesn't look like you did much work on the layout this month ..."

You have very little to show for all the effort. Scenery on the other hand, gets great comments, even if you do just a little.

And of course for me, it's all about operating. That's the end I always have in mind with the hobby -- running great looking models through great looking scenery in a realistic, prototype-based manner.

My favorite part of model railroading is when I put an engine on the track of a new layout and watch it make its way around and through the layout without problems, and the sign lights up in my head telling me we're in business...

I picked other, because 95% of my enjoyment comes from messing with steam engine models. I have a layout mainly to run steam engines.

I picked all of the above
Its just like everything we do ther are things that we like and don't like to do. The things I don't like to do are the things that I can't do well . So I just keep practicing till i get better and then I'll enjoy it more.

I picked all of the above since that leads to having a layout. The only thing I don't do is weathering - I have done it in the past, but I have no interest in it. I prefer the new look.

I probably should pick benchwork as my favorite since I always get that done before I tear done (for one reason or another) and start a new layout. And I enjoy the wood working. In fact my current layout gave me a chance to practice hand cutting dovetails.

Enjoy
