I've had good luck with rrtains.com recently. They have extremely good prices if you become a member. They have been very responsive to emails. One of my packages was really banged up when I received it, but I'm not sure who to blame for that. Everything on the inside looked OK though. Fortunately, it wasn't anything fragile.

Rob,
I checked out ywdmodeltrains.com and he has a very intersting website. Although figuring out his discount for stuff ordered from the Walthers catalog might prove to be difficult - it is definately worth looking into - espeically for things such as detail parts etc. Thanks!

I don't hear too much good about Wholesale Trains in NY.

I've dealt with them ONLY once, to buy my BLI AC-5. It came out fine, thank goodness.

lI have used Discount Model Trains On Line, Walthers, Tomar and Horizon Hobby all with good success. Wholesale Trains out of Hogshead NY is very poor. I would not recommend them. [:(!]

Here in Europe I use since many years CABOOSE HOBBIES which for an European is a good ressource with their big stock and great online catalog.
I never had any problems with them and its oversea order.

Before them I worked with MIAMI TRAINS and had no more problems.

I can recommend Walthers and Caboose Hobbies (www.caboosehobbies.com) without hesitation. Friendly, fast shipping, accurate web sites.

Although not necessarily an internet retailer, I do extensive business with The Whistle Stop in San Diego, California (contact information is in the directory section in Model Railroader). Scott never fails to get that hard to find Burlington Route item for me, even though I no longer live in San Diego (something like 2000 miles away now).

The Whistle Stop has been in business for 50 + years now … that in of itself says plenty for me.

Burlington John

Hi Guys,
I just received an order from www.toytrainheaven.com and am very satisfied. They have great prices on supplies like Kadee couplers and wheels.

Hope this helps.

I will second Tony's Train Exchange (esp for DCC stuff), and Modeltrainstuff (M.B. Klein).

These are two of the oldest and most reliable folk on the web !!!

I have bought (or tried to buy) from many of the internet dealers, but now buy on-line from only these two (Modeltrainstuff also sells on e-Bay, BTW).

USPlastics was fine. I bought 2 big sheets of styrene. I really didn't need that much, but the shipping cost for one sheet was the same as 2, so I figured I'd look ahead and buy extra. A couple of days ago, I got an e-mail from them offering a 10 percent discount for the next 30 days, and basically just asking how well I was getting along with their product. I thought that kind of follow-up was pretty friendly. I wrote back a brief note to tell them what I was doing with it, and I suggested they might want to advertise in MR. They replied that they had forwarded the suggestion to marketing.

Mister Beasley,

What did you think of USPlastics?

I ordered from them online and everything went fine.

A couple of other reputable N scale online dealers, in addition to those already named, would be:

http://www.featherrivertrains.com/

I had a real quick shipping experience with www.discounttrainsonline.com . Wholesaletrains.com was terrible. Took a month to get a couple of little grain--o-wheat bulbs. www.gadgettom.com is great, too.

My LHS, Davis Trains, has online ordering. I have never bought from them online, but the service and prices in their retail store is excellent, and I would expect nothing less from an online order.

I have to agree with Adelie. Brooklynn Locomotive Works is good. They are the only vendor I have dealt with and I have dealt with them for years. I used to call them up. I've never tried them online. I got my '96 Kato Mikado from BLW. That has been almost ten years ago.

I've had good response from Discount Trains Online, Rocousa (Preiser Figures) and Images Replicas (NY Subway Stuff.) I also ordered some sheet styrene from US Plastics. They're not particularly MR oriented, but if you use a lot of styrene sheets, they are the way to go. I've had absolutely FABULOUS response from Trainworld (I ordered Wednesday night, and had my trains on Friday afternoon.) I got a terrific cut stone wall mold for hydrocal casting from Dave Frary at mrscenery.com, too.

Of course, I still go to my LHS, Maine Trains in Chelmsford, Mass., whenever I can, and I buy what I can through them.

I've purchased from Flying Scotsman and Discount trains Online..no problems. Peter at Flying Scotsman even emailed me back that one item I ordered was no longer available and he offered three other suggestions ( military flats w/loads) and I went with one of his suggestions. Shipping is reasonable and turn around time usually depends on if the item is in stock. Always use a credit card and MAKE SURE the page you put your Ccard info on is a "secure page" by checking for the 'padlock' symbol down in the lower right corner of your browser.

For N scale, add www.blwnscale.com (Brooklyn Locomotive Works). 4nscale is great, too.

If you want a reliable, well priced one man show type of web dealer try www.tomstrains.com His web site is hideous, but the shipping rate is very fair and they are a good honest family business. I have purchased many things from them in the past. My preffered supplier on-line for DCC related items is www.litchfieldstation.com Bruce has an excellent business.

Trainworld has an order form that you can download, fill out and e-mail or fax back to them. I've used it with great success. Can't beat their prices!

I can share with you my experiences. I have purchased items from Walthers, Internet Hobbies, and Discount Trains. All of my purchases arrived with out issue. Walthers, I believe, was the quickest averaging about four business days. Discount Trains takes a long time, nearly two weeks. And Internet Hobbies charges the most for shipping. But, I think that is how they make their profit.
I wish I could help you more but these are all I know. I would like to try Trainworld sometime, but I believe one has to call them directly instead of simply clicking the mouse and entering your credit card number.
Hopefully this helps a little.
By the way, not really your question just my two cents, I being totally new to model railroad in all aspects find Walthers very useful.
Respectfully, Jacob
