Although I really loved the old Star Wars films, I haven't been too impressed by the first two of the new batch, so I'll probably skip this one. Now on the other hand, the new epic KINGDOM OF HEAVEN from the same studio is just terrific!

I just about died today- my wife's group at work went to see it (on the company tab, too... there are downsides to working at M$, but there are some upsides too...), so she got to see it today. She's not particularly a science-fiction fan (unless it is in Mandarin), and barely remembered the plot (after she got home, she was asking me if Darth eventually loses!), but overall she said she enjoyed it.[tup]

Meanwhile, I'll have to wait a while to find time to sneak out and see it myself, and on my own tab, too. (For the most-part, only FT employees get these kind of perks, not the contractors like me!)

<ratchel-fratchel-grrrrrrr>

Oh well, I got to spend time outside with the little boy. (I'm looking forward to indoctrinating him the correct way- I've still got the deluxe laserdisks of the original trilogy- no revamped/rerendered version for me!) [:D]

I haven't seen Episode III yet, but am looking forward to it. I like to wait about a week before going to see a block buster like this one as so to let the crowds kind of thin out a bit.

Where do these a-- holes come from ?. They don't contribute anything to this forum, and all they do is look for an opportunity to insult someone.

Trainluver, relax.

While this thread is off topic and some of us don't mind, others are going to become a little irritated. Should be expected. But your comment, with all due respect, is crossing the line. Sort of like throwing a concrete block to crush a soda can. Gtirr made an abrasive post, best thing would have been to just "let it slide" or respond cooly.

Gee... Calm down. gtirr's post is hardly inflamatory, he agree's with the thread title! With any movie hyped like this one, there are going to be folks who don't care. I am totally bemused at the concept of sitting outside a movie theatre for hours/days/weeks dressed in a sci-fi costume. But then again, I know people who don't understand the concept of sitting next to a train track for hours on end. trainluver1, your response here is really over the top and not the least bit appropriate for a forum visited by kids.

Sam:

I don't care for Si-Fi either but, hey, you didn't have to read this thread. I pass over a lot of threads because I think they're stupid or I'm not interested. I wouldn't have read this one but a friend of mine told me about it.

I'm still interested in that hobby shop that gave you the problems.

When are you comming over to my place and see the "Almost Nothing"?

You know, I don't think this post is inflamatory. He basically is saying that the post is off topic, but who cares if it is.

It is unfortunate that it is ambiguous.

I'll see it after the crowds thin out. The topic title is pretty clear. Just skip it if you don't care for it. I'm not bothered by it - after all we're not monks locked away in a model railroad monastary endlessly debating the merits of the horn hook coupler.[:)]
Enjoy

My wife and I are struggling to decide wether or not to let our 8 year old, who is a complete Star Wars nut, go see the film. We haven't seen it, but much has been made about the "dark" qualities of the plot in this episode.

Of those of you who have seen it, would you let an 8 year old see it?

petejung,

Have the same question about our 10 year old. His mom was going to take him and bunch of friends to see the movie for his birthday. After reading a couple of news articles we decided to wait abit. She's going to see the movie this weekend as an I and my wife. We'll then decide if it is appropriate. We explained this to our son and he's cool with it.

I went at midnight opening night. I won the tickets on the radio, which was destined to happen since my son's middle name is Anakin. heh heh

Anyway, I will not let my daughter see this movie yet and she is eight. But, she is not a big Star Wars fan. Neither is my son, so he won't see it either. If they were big fans and understood more of the entire story, then I would. I would assume that even the young kids that are big fans understand that Darth Vader was once a Jedi who was "tempted by the dark side." If they can understand that, then they will be able to see the "big picture" of the story and realize that Anakin makes mistakes but, ultimately, redeems himself in the end by saving Luke in Return of the Jedi.

Loved the movie. Far better than the Ep. I & II. Very dark, but then what do you expect? It is, afterall, about Anakin's descent to the dark side.

The worst part of the movie for kids besides the fall to the dark side will be seeing the mangled and scared body that's inside that suit, and you get to see it from head to toe.

It's not a pretty site since Anakin not only gets hacked to pieces by Obi-Wan, his clothes catch on fire and the burns disfigure what's left.

You can take an 8 year old Star Wars fanatic to see it -- would be hard to deny them the satisfaction of seeing the whole story ... but explain to them ahead of time that it's going to get pretty gruesome, then let them decide.

For me the science fiction event of the year was Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy. The casting could not have been better IMHO. There was to much material for one movie but I did enjoy it.

Star Wars 3 will have to wait until there is someone else in the family interested in seeing it.

Me's a thinks I would join the darkside too if Jar Jar Binks ranted on and on and on and on. I hope the emperor zaps her for the republic/empire.

I'm the "geek" who posted this originally. I was remined of a conversation I had with friend a few years back. He took his son to a club layout show. I asked him what he thought. His response was, "There were a bunch of train GEEKS there!"
