VCR head cleaner is Isopropyl Alcohol and water.

I've used a pencil eraser, but that will damage the paint behind the decal. Has a coat of dull-coat been applied over the decals? If not, a q-tip with decal softener would probably remove the decal without damaging the paint.

Thanks for these options for removing the lettering. I will try one this weekend. I will report back to let everyone know the outcome.

there was an article in MRR a few months ago that used pine sol on a q-tip..I use poly s paint and decal remover and remove the decal and some of the paint and just repaint the bare spot before decaling..if the paint is even a close match to the original color the new decals will hide the new paint...chuck

A third method is to use 91% alcohol on a Q-tip and carefully rub enough to get the lettering without stripping the paint.

You can try these methods
1. Brush paint over the old markings and redecal over the paint. This works if you can match the paint well. For instance I have a bottle of Boston & Maine blue that is a good match for the stock Athearn "Bluebird" GP38's.
2. Try a draftsmans electric eraser tool with the no grit white "vellum" erase rubber.
Use a light touch, and be prepared to retouch the paint should the erase tool bite in too deeply and expose the underlying plastic.

Could I get some help in removing lettering from 3 passenger coaches. I would like to keep the underliying paint in tack. The coaches are Athern painted for the Nickel Plate Road. I would like to change them to the Western Maryland. I do have decals. The coach paint looks like O.D. green. I thought it might be pullman green???? The lettering is yellow. HELP!!

Thanks
Phil
