I got a passenger pilot for my PRR and NYC E7s. There is a set of unpainted black doors in the parts bag to be mounted as an option.

I was looking for answers from folks who had already purchased E units - surely they could give me an answer. If not, I will contact BLI...

You are asking a question that only BLI can answer at this time.

The E8 shows a picture of a UP unit, which uses the pasenger pilot, but does show any other picutes or details. They do list both types of stainless grills on the sides.
I have emailed their staff and have received answers to my questions more than once with BLI.

Does BLI routinely include 2 pilots with their E units (as Life-Like does) - one for freight and the other for passenger service? If so, does the passenger pilot have doors (operating or stationary)?
