I have been away from the hobby for a while, was wondering what is offered in N&W steam?

I know that Bachmann does an N&W J and Life-Like has announced a Y3 2-8-8-2.

I've never owned any of them so I can't comment on accuracy, running ability or such.

I have a friend who has the Bachmann J
4-8-4, #608. It is pretty good, looks great, runs as Bachmann's do, in other words it's not like a Kato or Atlas. Not too bad for the price. He paid $135 Canadian + tax, so it was about $100 USD net. He's gone out of N scale and back to HO, so is going to sell it.Only been once around the layout, then back in the box.

Lack of N-scale steam has been a sore spot for a while now. We can only hope that new offerings are on the horizon. Hey, I figure that if Athearn can enter N-scale, then anything is possible!

I model N&W in N-scale, but in the diesel era.

Y have a Bachmann J 611 4-8-4, the body looks great but it runs really very poorly and the valve gear has over sized rods. I am currently looking to adapt a mechanism from a german brand to get a very smooth running.

In between I have added a synchronous steam noise generator to help forgiving the akward mechanism.
