Invasion
Posted by Adelie on Friday, May 6, 2005 6:34 PM
Help! The Canadians are coming. We are being invaded.

I work in Washington DC, about 3 blocks from the Air and Space Museum. An elevated section of 3-track mainline runs in front of our office building. It is an active stretch of track, between CSX freights, Amtrak and VRE commuter trains.

I've seen a variety of locomotive livery run by there attached to CSX trains. Mostly leasing companies, a few old Conrail paint jobs, even a stray UP has wandered by. Today, a freight came by with a CSX Dash 9 in the lead followed by a pair of CN locos (a Dash 9 and an EMD).

From reading some recent posts out here, those CN locos are getting around. I guess this would be more of a scoop if one of them was on the point.

What sort of licensing fee will CN charge when everyone has to convert their roster over?

Lots of CN equipment in NW Ohio area, locos and rolling stock. There is at least one place that I know of that has a sign by the crossing warning people not to trespass....and it say CN property!

No pictures, I was at work walking from my office to our customer's. Even if I had a camera down there, it caught me completely off guard. Usually the biggest surprise on those tracks is what power CSX has on the lead and what paint scheme it carries.

Wouldn't that be "The Canadians are coming AGAIN" The last time we were there was in 1814 and we set fire to your White House, this time we will try to be a little more careful.

I'd be willing to give Celine back.......

I see CN units in SoCal (not SoCa as to fuel the CA vs CA debate) often.

Well from what I've heard around here about 20 years ago seeing a Canadian locomotive in Milwaukee was big news, lol being from that part o' the world I guess I'm just lucky or something.

Well being in America now, I... oh wait what's that over there! oh NO! arrrgh!!!

I knew starting this topic was a bad idea![;)]

If they were going to send locos down my way, I wi***hey would have sent hockey players, too. It is about this time of year when my wife loses me to the NHL playoffs (as she watches such gems as the Bachelor). Alas, not this year. On the bright side, I still refuse to watch the Bachelor.

I did sort of get a charge out of Canadian National putting their web address on the side of the locomotives. Well, if the VRE (Virginia Railway Express) can lease cars with the name "Sounder" on the side and a nautical-colored paint scheme, I guess CN is welcome. Obviously, we are not near a sound.

Oh the chaos these days. Makes for some interesting sights.

Well, getting back to the CN power getting around....
A few weeks ago the kiddo and I went camping along the BNSF TransCon Line between Flagstaff and Willaims. I saw a one train that had 2 CN engines in there along with 2 other -9 in BNSF. Over the day we saw a few others too. Bit surprisedto see them way down here. Arizona is a bit south.

Best Regards, Big John

Uuummmm! I think we already did that. Some of the best Canadian locomotives have been down here in the states for years.

Just make sure those "Sounder" cars ( from Seattle area) are treated with respect by those easterners and it'll be ok. Sounds like the Sounder cars are getting around.

Unfortunately, I don't ride the train in (no station nearby, so I take a bus). VRE seems to like them, as do the riders. I know they have at least one of the Sounder locomotives, too, but I haven't seen it in a while.
