New Walthers Turntable!
Posted by davekelly on Tuesday, May 3, 2005 4:04 PM
Maybe I missed it earlier. But in the New Products Guide I just received, Walthers is offering a 90 foot turntable, which based on its description (page 11) will be similar to the 130 foot model. Looks like they are also doing an N Scale 130 footer.

I think this is a great move by Walthers. I'm assuming that more folks will be able to fit a 90 footer into their layouts rather than the 130. I'm also hoping that they would have worked out any bugs discovered in the 130 model.

Can't wait till it comes out!!

I have the 130' turntable, no bugs to be worked out. It is an awesome machine.

I wonder if it is just a motorized and indexed version of the non-powered table they offer currently?

Dave, Hi from Downunder and thanks for the news.
Do you know if there will be a 90 foot turntable in N scale? I've just started laying track on my new N scale layout and a 90 foot turntable would be very helpful. That translates to a diameter of about 7 inches???

Dave,

Did they say how much the 90' turntable was going for?

The MSRP is 299, but I'm sure it will be available for less than that once it hits the streets.

Kozzie, sorry to say I didn't see anything about a smaller N scale one.

No, but the polarity is reversed in the two leads. [;)]

[(-D] Brian, not bad, I'll pay that one heh heh [(-D]

Apparently, down here, the water swirls down the plug hole in the opposite direction to the northern hemisphere - something about the earth's rotation and gravity - I'm not kidding - serious.

Dave - thanks for confirming what I had suspected - but there's always hope...I did ages ago see an N scale Swiss style turntable that was about 90 scale feet - I think it was the Peco brand from the UK....but it didn't have a pit, it was on a shallow platform - I guess one would just build up the approach tracks a little to meet up correctly.

Dave,

Yowzah! $300 clams for 90' turntabale! [:O] I guess the other question to ask is: Does that include the indexing motor? I think Walthers is taking a real leap of faith. Even with the advent of the new 130' turntable, some folks may be a bit gun shy to buy this version after the problems with their other 90 footer.

That's fully indexed and motorized. A BARGAIN price. Really, it is. Look up the price on JUST the drive and indexing kits available from other manufacturers - more than what Walthers wants for the whole turntable and drive.
The indexing system in the Walthers turntable is apparantly built by Lenz. Reading the manual for it, it's quite sophisticated, does just about anythign nayone could possibly need. I'm really trying to work out getting one before they stop making them - the 130' that is. I know I will need a turntable, I'm just not at that point yet. I should see if they will do a layaway kind of thing so I don;t have to pony up the 300 clams all at once.
