Front Coupler on a Bachmann Consolidation?
Posted by cefinkjr on Saturday, April 30, 2005 7:46 PM
Has anybody successfully added a front coupler to a Bachmann Consolidation? I checked Kadee's web site (http://www.kadee.com/conv/pdf/b59.pdf) and they weren't too encouraging with their noises about "extensive cutting and modification". Any tips or suggestions from your experiences?

Thanks,
Chuck

I assume you mean the SPECTRUM. I haven' done anything with the one on mine. I just use it to push my Walthers Rotary Snowplow arround. It may be a plastic EZ-Mate, but it seems to work just fine.

I've added Kadee #58s to all four of my BS 2-8-0s. You have to do a little hacking, filing, filling, and tapping (I add all my coupler boxes with 2-56 screws), but it's a straightforward conversion.

I've added #58's to mine without any "cutting" or "modifications". All you need to do is use the clip Bachmann supplies, a standard Kadee spring plate, and the coupler. I just smoothed out the shank like you're supposed to do anyway, and the whole thing just slips right in...

All Bachmanns (steam) tend to have phony front couplers.

Um, no. The standard Bachmanns tend to have dummys, but all the Spectrums have working couplers on the front.
