NKP No. 587 roars through my back yard from time to time (she drives the dogs nuts 'cause the ground starts shaking and all), although she hasn't been around for a while due to a boiler refitting. She's a USRA Light Mikado. I also have a couple of F3's, SD7's, and SD9's that cruise through hauling heavyweight pullmans and corrigated Budd passanger cars. You see, I live right up the tracks from the Indiana Transportation Museum.

They have some really good pictures on the web, but they didn't take pictures of everything. As a matter of fact, theres a lot that they left out, but there are plenty of good photo's.

I have the NKP 765 Berk on the other side of town from me! Also have a Wabash 0-6-0 being tore apart! They say the 765 is getting ready soon to get back on the rails for some trips. Sad it wont be on home rails though................... Kevin

No photos but I've got a 4-8-8-4(4014), a centennial, santa fe 4-8-4(3751)(restored runner), SF 4-6-4, 2 shays, a WP 2-8-2, UP 4-12-2 (9000), SP 2-10-0, Sp 4-4-2, 2 heislers, numerous 0-4-0's, RG&W 2-6-2 (restored runner), a 4-4-0, numerous 0-6-0's, & much more.

i got Pere Marqutte 1225 really close. Huckle Berry Railroad number 2. D&RGW 464. Flagg Coal Co. number 75 and Reading 123. all those are in running condtion except 464 which is currently being reassembled

How about a "Wee Beastie"? An Orenstein-Koppel 0-4-2-T built in 1900. On display at the National Railway Museum in Puebla, which is about a 6 hour drive away from me.




Or, for something more modern, an ALCO PA-1 (okay, technically PA-4 after rebuilding by MK in 1975) (ex-ATSF, ex-D&H), also on display at the museum in Puebla. Sorry, didn't have my 'tree filter' on the camera.




Or this Niagara, built by Baldwin in 1946. Part of the last order for steam placed by the NdeM.

Not, I have to observe, the BEST built thing ever to come out of Comox, BC. But you have to go elsewhere on the Internet to see those pictures.

the only trains neer me is a shortline called the Maryland and Delaware Railraod. the have 3 RS3m's and 3 CF7's

Well this is subject I really like[^]I've beenrunning all over southren oregon looking for old engines and cars.
Here is what I have found:this an baldwin S8 built in 1952 has been restored runs good but needs new paint job.This next one is an GE600 I think?And MEDCO#4 under restorationsteam engineRear of the engineBoiler domes boilerand at last the CabWHEW I think that will will do for now[8D]

ST, great shots!
I've seen 3100 at the Museum of Technology in Ottawa where you can climb through the cab of it & the Royal Hudson beside it.
I have pictures of them but they they're inside & I couldn't get a decent picture of it.

The Northerns are available in HO scale, I've seen them but only in brass.

Don't worry, it is very safe from being melted down. It is displayed with a heavyweight passenger car and a wooden caboose behind a fence (see picture). There is a plaque in front of it that gives the full history of the engine. Every year at Christmas, they decorate it with lights. Back when the plant first opened in the late 50's, they melted down many steam locomotives, so I imagine that they decided to save this one (a shame they didn't save more). Believe it or not, IPSCO has a sort of family fun park with waterslides right beside their smelting plant (no, I'm not making this up). The parking lot for it is near the 3101. They also have a herd of tame elk that are kept in a fenced-in field just behind the 3101.

I definetly agree with you both that the 3101 is one of the most beautiful engines I've seen! I think it would be a great candidate for being restored for excursion service.

As for models in HO, I did once see a Bachmann model on ebay, but it could hardly be considered prototypical. It was one of their Santa Fe northerns with a maroon CP tender and the number 3101 on the cab and it didn't look anything like the real thing. It would be nice to have a correct model. I'd buy one.

this loco is a black 5 number 45407 and it's seen here at home on the East lancs railway in the UK, it's out on an excursion this weekend

this one is a bit small to qualify as a beast, but it has gone places,
it has been build in 1943 for the US Transportation Corps, and is now preserved
in Goes, a town 15 miles from here

Comox, Vancouver Island, a 2-6-2T made by Baldwin. Was used until middle of the last century as a logging op locomotive. There is a lot of coal in the area, so I think it burned coal.
