Carl,

Thanks for the pics! I like the one of the abandon track and switch stand. (I bet there are a lot of lost stories in and around those tracks.)

Sedona is a neat place to visit. My wife and I drove through there and up the canyon in June '94. (They had their garlic festival going on at the time.) The next time you are there, you should take the Grand Canyon RR trip to the rim. I've been to the Grand Canyon a couple of times. But to get there via a steamer would be a lot of fun. [:)]

Carl--that's some really interesting-looking country. And what a GREAT storm photo--I remember outracing several of those whoppers coming through northern Arizona some years back! Dumb question, but where exactly is Sedona? Is it near Phoenix, or farther north? Neat photos!!

Tom,

Sedona is about 2-3 hours north of Phoenix, between Pheonix and Flagstaff - almost smack-dab in the middle of the state. (See map link below)

Beautiful part of the country. The drive up through Walnut Canyon is outstanding. Kinda like Santa Fe, NM, Sedona is a real artisan hangout.

I can't remember the name of the railroad but they also offer a tourist train ride pulled by the F units. As I recall they also run some GP7's or 9's for their freight use. I believe they were once part of the SantaFe and now interchange with the BNSF.

Interesting, a line running all first-generation equipment, nice. Do the folks in the Classic Trains forum know about this?
