my layout is an around the walls modular type. i am running a pair of 14 gauge buss wires under the layout. you can just run one pair of wires under your layout and bring the track feeders over to it. i am using a european style 12 position barrier terminal strip from radio shack to fasten the buss wires to the layout. it is part # 274-677. i cut them into 2 segment pieces with a razor saw and screw them under the layout, then when i run the wire i strip it where it will be in the segment. the wires slide through the segments and then you tighten the screws to hold the wire. this way it keeps the wires separated and when you add the track feeders you will be able to install them without having to solder under the layout. each segment will hold a 14 gauge wire plus several track feeders making it easy to wire and make changes if you need too.

Iceman;

The buss needs to be sufficiently long to keep your buss to track feeders short - less than a foot is excellent, less than 2 feet is okay. The feeders should be attached to the track every three to six feet, and all three sides of every turnout. The longer the feeder wires are, the more numerous they should be - bad economics there.
