Help!! Airbrush problem.
Posted by rexhea on Saturday, April 16, 2005 11:06 PM
I have a Paasche VL airbrush and it has decided to quit on me. It has quit sucking the paint from the paint jar.

I have taken all the parts out, cleaned them thoroughly, changed the needle and cap, but still no-go. .

One thing different that I have noticed is that if I insert the needle all the way into the cap, it will blow bubbles into the paint jar in the air only position. This has never happened before.

I haven't detected any air leaks and the compressor seems normal.

I am out of ideas. Can someone please help. I have a pile of trestle bents to paint and I hate the brush for this. [:(]

It sounds as if you still have a blockage in one of the passages. Have you tried carburetor cleaner, or maybe soaking the airbrush in a solvent for a period of time??

If you screw down the paint adjustment all the way, mine has always blown bubbles in the paint jar - part of my cleaning routine. Without writing a book on flow dynamics, I will say that this is perfectly normal. Offhand I would suspect you have a bad 'O' ring. It's not a bad idea to get some spares and keep them on hand, because when they fail the gun can quit working, as you have found.
What could have happened.... did.

Virginian may well be right on the "o" ring. I have bought parts from a company called Air Brush Outlet (www.airbrushoutlet.com) with success.

Also, make sure the aircap is tightened down well (the gadget that the tip fits in). If air is escaping through there you will get some strange behavior.

Without hunting through my Paasche literature for the proper terminology, there's a little cone shaped attachment in the tip assembly with a series of REALLY TINY holes arranged around the circumfrence. Try using a piece of fine steel wire to punch through the tiny holes to make sure they're clear.
