Athearn Challenger on page Seven of May Model Railroader
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, April 15, 2005 5:59 PM

I wrote Athearn about the Oil tender detail they show in the new ad for the oil fired Challenger. They have the same detail as the Fan Trip modified UP3985. They had advertised the two tone gray as the in service version along with the 3943, coal version.
I hope they offer details on the 3977 as it was in service in the late forties to 1950.
My email to them is below. If you want a model as in service, please email Athearn about this detail problem.
Thank you

Dear Athearn

I noticed your latest Genesis Challenger ad on page seven of the May Model Railroader and since I have two reserved, I wanted to a question about some incorrect details on this model.
The detail on the top of the Oil tender is the same as the fan trip version of 3985. The oil containment box and other details is certainly not correct for the in service version of the 3977 or any other oil version besides the 3985. Is this going to be corrected??? Can you supply the regular oil version tender as used in service??

I have two of the first models and have two of these coming models reserved, but I do not want an incorrect detailed model and wanted to deactivate my reservations if this is not corrected.

And I signed it.
