Countershot.

Would be helpful if you gave a little more detail. Is the paint peeling on one of the fans only, or is it the roof fan and the section beyond?

If you got it brand new, I would return it to the store. If not, this is usually an easy fix, but again details help.

There are several ways to fix this. Here's one:

I'm not familiar with this particular Athearn model, but if the roof fan comes off, carefully clean it and proceed to strip off the rest of the paint. You can dip it in a small container with 91% Alcohol. Brush it with a soft tooth brush and the paint will come off. Wipe with a clean cloth, and repaint the fan with Badger ModelFlex paint.

there is a paint remover called Poly S decal and paint remover...daub a little bit on the fan with a q-tip..let it crinkle and then take a soft brush like tony said and remove the paint then wash it off with warm soapy water and let it air dry..now, tape off the areas you don't want painted with a good masking tape and lightly spray a plastic safe primer on the fan ..let it dry overnight then go to your LHS with the locomotive if need be, and ask the guy behind the counter what color of spray paint you should use..he'll probably find a can of Scale Coat that will match..take it home and very lightly again spray the fan with the paint again masking off the areas you don't want painted...be carefull with model spray paint..it comes out of the can in about an 8 " pattern and doesn't take much at all to cover and it runs easily..another thing you can do is just brush off the peeling paint and weather the fan with a very light coat of flat black paint..usually intakes and fans have a dark tint to them anyway...there is a lot of air movement in those areas of the locomotive which brings in a lot of dirts, oils, and plain ol' black gunky stuff ...it's either that or you'll have to live with the paint peeling...Chuck
