Dan,

You'll need to upload the pics off of your computer and onto a site that will "host" them for you. (This usually means that you will have to open an account with them.)

There are a few sites out there that will do this for you for FREE. Here's a short list:

- http://railimages.com - Be patient. It's a bit slow to load.
- http://webshots.com - Not always as reliable

Once your pics are uploaded onto the web site, all you need to do is refer to it in the body of your post. You'll need to put the picture's web address between these sets of brackets: ["img"] and {"/img"] (minus the quotation marks) Here's an example:

["img"]http://www.railimages.com/tmstage/coaliingtower.jpg["/img"]
The letters in the brackets are html code for displaying pictures. The first says, "Hey! The image STARTS right here"; the second, "Hey! The image STOPS right here." Your picture web address has to be in between those brackets.

Dan, you can locate your picture web address by right clicking your pic with your mouse, click on "Properties" (located at the bottom), go to "image Properties and copy (Ctrl +C) the entire "location" address into your post. (See example above or practice on the pic located at the bottom of my post.

Now, you may have to expand the Property box in order to see the entire picture web address.) Again, the address HAS to be placed between the two sets of brackets (minus the quotation marks.) in order for the picture to display properly.

Dan, I hope that helps....

Tom

Tom's explanation looks right on. One additional note: Do not have any symbols such as "$,&,#" in your file name or it will not work. That was my initial mistake when I first tried to post.

The other thing best not to do is to avoid having spaces in your file name.

Instead of (these URLs do not work, they are for explanation purposes only):

http://siskiyou.railfan.net/images/my photo.jpg

Do:
http://siskiyou.railfan.net/images/myPhoto.jpg

or
http://siskiyou.railfan.net/images/my_photo.jpg

In other words, use camelcase (imbedded capital letters in the name, like the capital "P" above) or use the underbar character in place of a space in the file name.

OK, guys. I followed your instructions (see http://www.trains.com/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=35492) and it seemed to work but...

The images I posted can't be enlarged as I expected them to be. What did I do wrong?

The images are posted at http://www.railimages.com/gallery/charlesfink and they can be enlarged there.

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Chuck

How big were your original images? I post mine on Photobucket at 800 pixels wide. When they are posted on this forum they are half that or smaller. They enlarge to 800 when clicked on.

Chuck,

It looks like your image is on the small size: 356 x 336. Here's what I was able post, using your photo web address:

The above pic is the web address in the FULL mode. Is that the size you were getting?

If you double-click on your Railimages picture with your mouse (left button), the image will alternate between "normal" and "full" view. For a larger posted picture, copy the "full" view address.

Tom,

You're right. I posted the URL of the thumbnail version. (So what did I think "thumb" meant as the second node of the filename? DUH !!! [D)][D)][D)] )

I edited my original "What Have I Got Here??" post and a new window now opens when you click on either image. But it's the same size as the image in the post. I checked back on RailImage.com and the "Normal" and "Full" are the same size there, too. That suggests to me that I did something wrong in posting them to RailImage in the first place. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Chuck

Chuck,

I noticed that, too, when I was clicking on them earlier. Maybe it's because the image is already small (356 x 336). Honestly, I don't really know why for sure. Maybe some else can chime in.
