RS1 to RS3?
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, April 15, 2005 7:41 AM
I recently bought an Atlas Classic HO Alco RS1, undecorated. I want to model an RS3 but I couldn't find one.

Does anyone know of an RS3 shell that would fit the Atlas Mechanism?

Thanks,

Doug

They are two different models, the shell from one will not fit on the other. Check eBay for an RS-3.

The RS1 is a really nice model and I would not alter it. If the LHS has a bulletin board why not offer to trade it for an RS3? (I can't recall -- is the MDC model now offered by Athearn an RS2 or RS3?)

Forget it. They are not even close to being the same. For example, the RS-1 has the fuel tank under the cab above the frame with the batteries between the trucks under the frame. On an RS-3, these positions are reversed. If you plopped an RS-3 body on an RS-1 frame, you'd have no fuel but plenty of battery power. [:)]

It will be an RS-3, specifically, a Phase Ib (the most common and widespread version).
