MR index
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, April 6, 2005 9:47 AM
Where - How can I find an on-line index of articles in MR from way back when?
Not just this month or last year, but a total index covering many years of previous issues.
Have magazines, need index to avoid manual searching.

There's also a link to it at the top of this page and most others on this site "Index of Magazines". The print is small and it's right at the top.
Enjoy

Uuhh, tried that...after you pointed it out :-)
But using various combinations of key word searches It didn't find what I was looking for...
An item in MR several years back on how to use a single pole rotary switch, +/- power supplies, pull-up resistors and diodes for a simple yard throat turnout matrix for operating tortoise machines. i know how to do it, I was just looking for the official article in print.

So it wasn't in the May 1982, right? The other was November 1968, more than a few years ago. Are you positive it was in Model Railroader?

I use to get the NMRA Bulletin which published an article index annually, however I haven't received the magazine for years.

One alternative is a program that you can buy that indexes modeling articles. You can read about it for free on the Gateway NMRA web site.

Umm. As you can see your search is limited to the key words the indexers used. You might drill down through the categories. For example going through wiring, then limiting to MR I came up with 203 articles. This one is similar to at least part of what you're talking about

Route control for slow-motion turnout motors
Model Railroader, November 2000 page 106
A very simple and economical design
( CONTROL, MACHINE, "SMITH, DAVID K.", SWITCH, TRACK, WIRING, MR )

It doesn't mention all of the things you're talking about, but I don't think this index will give you that kind of depth. You just have to pick the best looking matches then go look up the articles.

Good luck
