dcc sound question

Due to the size of N scale, I know adding a sound decoder into an steam
engine is next to imposible. I was thinking of taking a soundtrax sound only
decoder and mounting it into a building. I have a small layout, 25"x52"
that sits ontop of my coffie table. I'm using Bachmann's ez-dcc system
to run my trains. I have a Bachmann Spectrum 2-8-0 and an Atlas mogul.
Is it posible to program the sound decoder to work with both loco's?
I would be able to run only one a time, the other loco would sit idle in
a siding. This is just some ideas I'm tossing around in my head right now.
I'm also looking at the MRP Sound box for steam http://www.modelrectifier.com/products/trainSound/product.asp?ID=1648&Subcategory=Sound%20systems and seting it up for dcc operation.
I dont really like the sound from the mrp sound station.

I think SoundTraxx makes sound decoders that are small enough to fit into N-scale steam engine tenders. Check their Web site for choices.

I was thinking about that, but the Atlas mogul is just to small to fit the decoder
plus the speaker into the tender. The other thing, with a speaker that small, the sound will not be that loud, might be diffucult to hear....If i spend the money, I want to be able to hear it. :o)

Yes you could put a Soundtraxx sound only decoder in something stationary, wired to the layout, you could send it output to an amplifier, powering a bunch of speakers, even a subwoofer under the layout. Just set it to the same address as the locomotive.
The Bachmann system can not program the Soundtraxx decoder, though once programmed, it can operate it.

Would I be able to program the decoder on another system, then wire it to my
layout? Second, once I get the decoder programed, can I control the sounds with my bachmann system? I have functions 0-9 (I know its limited, but
I wanted to get my feet wet with dcc, so far its been fun) I'm starting to
look more at the MRC sound box system.
