Wow there are people located in my area well in my state! Far away from my area but in the same state. I am located in Philadelphia. I have been to Horseshoe Curve too. Iw ent last year and absolutely loved it!! I sat on the side of a cement slab and read the MR magazine and watched the trains go by. What a truly great day

I grew up in Schuylkill Haven and also lived in Enola and St. Clair. I was attending the Middletown Campus of Penn State when Three Mile Island happened (exiting the campus you can see the Reactor Buildings about a mile and half in front of you. Five years ago I moved to Lake Mary, Florida. Sure do miss the mountains (but not the ice and snow!).

Hi fellow Pennsylvanians I live up in the North East corner of PA about 46 miles north of Scranton. I was born and raised here, but worked in NY State. Only about 4 miles as the crow flies to the PA/NY boarder but 10 miles to drive it. I live in Susquehanna. It used to be a Railroad Town, and most of the people back in the 3O's to the 50's worked for the railroad. I had 3 brothers that work for the ERIE RR, but the RR was on the way out when I got into the work force, so I didn't work for them.

You are only about an hour south of Clarion! We are having a Jamboree in Clarion on Saturday (APR 2) starts about 8:00am. We will be having clinics, displays and switching contest plus other things to do.

Come on up and have a fun day of model railroading. There will be layout tours after the Jam.

Native Pennsylvanian (Charleroi --30 miles or so due south of Pittsburgh) but moved to Texas 17 years ago. Getting away from the snow was part of the reason but the biggest reason was that my job moved to Texas and I do like to eat.

Y'all (I've learned to speak Texican) who still live in Pennsylvania and have a very thick roof over your train room should get down on your knees and thank God you have a basement. Concrete slabs do not make good train rooms!!!

Hey, Bob, a.k.a. CMRproducts, I'll try to come to the jamboree. I don't think I can. If I come I'll look for you there. I'm 12. I have a home layout. On that HO layout at the club, what natural materials did you use for the trees? They look pretty good. Most of my scenery is done, about 85%. The trees on my mountains and hills I made from poly fiber. I take black poly fiber from a local craft store, and I put Woodland Scenics foam on it. It looks like any hill in Appalachia. I have a point to point main and a continuous main, because I have brothers and they love to just watch the trains and follow them. I also let them run it, occasionally. They are REALLY into trains. My one brother is 6 and is building a 4X8 layout by himself. In my opinion, they are going to be prodigys.

Yeah the two I frequent are the one in Strasburg (I grew up with the owner's kids but that doesn't mean they'll give me a discount) and Mitchells. Unfortunately, there's only one other place that I know of around. That's Frey's. They're out in Willow Street. They're only small right now because their place burnt completely down. They might have started rebuilding now though. "Gonna start as soon as the ground isn't hard as a rock" If you come up past the Buck towards Willow Street, they're on the right. They also have Christmas tree's and Christmas stuff.

Since you're just getting started, not sure if you heard about the East Coast Hobby show or not. It's going on down in Fort Washington at the Expo center on April 9-10. Well worth going. It's probably about an hour or so from your place. http://www.hobbyshow.com/

I'm originally from West Chester. We moved out here back in 1992 because of the crowds. They followed us. LOL
I'm just getting started in the hobby so I don't know of any modelrailroaders in the area. Is there a hobby shop nearby that you use? I know of Strasburg and Mitchells but they are a hike from here.

Yep, moved to the flatlands and left what I also consider Paradise behind. Kids were in school and I was sitting in the house alone, calling SoDak every night. Came out here to get a fresh start. Have now been widowed, divorced and happily married. I say I've three wives; one late, one waiting and one right on time. [}:)]
Looking forward to the return to my homeland in May when the oldest graduates from Clarion U.
You know how it goes, miss the land but very few of the people.

Tom... I live over in Parkesburg. Typically when people ask me where I'm from, I tell them West Chester (lived there for 6 years). People tend to know where that's at more than Parkesburg.

If you find a club or hear of someone starting one or starting a roaming club (going to people's home layouts to work on them) let me know. I'm definitely interested.

My wife used to go to Clarion U, so I've been out that direction. Wish I knew about the Clarion club and Bob back then. would have loved to see their layouts. Don't get back out there that much anymore.

Hey, CMR, I like that HO scale layout at your club. I've always gone to your October open house. Last year I got a form about membership and I was thinking of joining. That HO layout really gave me inspiration for my layout. Also I really liked the one member's Alleghany! So I set my layout in Appalachia and bought an Alleghany!
