Most of the company names I'm coming up with have some meaning, some story or character from back when Dad lived in Cinncinati and we made up stories to pass the time. In that thread:

  • Ducky Bill's Marina & Boatwright Named for a rubber duck collection of Dad and I's
  • Frizz Brew & Bottling originally named Sheilcroat Brew & Bottle (Ulrich MAnfred Von Schwartz)Sheilcroat was a name of Dad's Rev War re-enacting persona. Frizz was a Looney Tunes ad, a common piece of advertising on modelling, but I'm not familiar with buildings carrying the name. I'm still debating going back to the old name. A rev wart character, or a cartoon we both loved...
  • PJ's Toys PJ was a stuffed animal and constant companion when I was younger.
  • Cedarleaf Family Massage Dad's attempt at a small business. And boy was he good
  • Tech Arts Design Affiliates Wood  products and custom work, because Dad loved the idea of a theatre company called TADA!! He designed a logo of DaVinci's Modern Man with a top Hat and cane. I wish I still had that.
  • SASA Aeronautics
  • April Steakhouse
  • The Dining Car

And in the realworld industry side, We've got

  • Cotton Mill Resort Historic Restoration
  • Madison Armor (No, I don't klnow what they do, but there's a railroad spur)
  • Phyzer Distrbuting
  • Meece-Obitron-Dunne (plastics)

I dont know why this thread reappeared, but I will add to it.

When I was 18 after having braces for years, it became apparent two things: 1) My mouth was too small  for wisdom teeth, and 2) they were impacted and growing sideways anyway. The best Oral Surgeon in the area surgically removed my wisdom teeth.

Oral Surgeon- Dr. Payne   (for real)

also for real is a local guy who owns car lots where one can "buy here, pay here" with weekly payments for those creditly embarrased. Just provide five references and a pay stub.

It is the "Just In Time" car lot. The owner's name? yes...Justin  (Marchuska)

-G .

Just my thoughts, ideas, opinions and experiences. Others may vary.

 HO and N Scale.

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.

A hodgepodge, with sources:

For Spider Robinson fans, a few pubs: Callahan's (Cross-Time Saloon optional), Mary's Place.

For those who remember Terry Walsh, one of the first switching gurus:
Burns and Burns fuel company, Laydee-Zunder Warehouse.

For those who won the Battle of Britain and flew P-51's over Berlin and Tokyo:
Merlin Motors.

For those who don't believe there's a prototype for everything:
Street sign in Rapid City, SD - Kno Plc.

To keep peace in my family, the narrow gauge line that brings logs to the Big Town on my layout is the Kashimoto Forest Railway - Kashimoto being my wife's maiden name.

Model railroading is fun(ny).

Chuck.

I plan to name different locations or buildings after the grandchildren. My main feature is the "National, Allied, Standard, Titanic, Ytterbic" Chemical Plant. The initials spell NASTY Chemicals. I spent a lot of time reading all the "T's" and all the "Y's" in the dictionary to make the name work out. As I got near the end of the "Y's" I was worried that I wouldn't find a word that was a chemical!
I also have a "Dewey, Cheatem and Howe." I'm planning a water fall and call it "Krista Falls." One day my granddaughter was following me down the stairs to the basement to see the trains. She slipped and took me down with her. I plan to have a sign, "See beautiful 'Krista Falls.'"

"Ceasar's Salads Romanesque Restraunt".

"Hugh Jazz Weight Loss Center"

"I. M. Falling Memorial Bridge"

"I.C. Ewe Spyglasses"

"M.C. Hammers"

They might be corny, but they might bring a chuckle or two. [:)]

-Brandon

BTW, I have a place on my layout called "Brando's Bar and Grill" (Brando is my nickname). Also, I have a few buisnesses named after my family and friends. Gives you something to think about.

Notso real: Phil McCracken Cement. I used this on a diorama I sold at a train show. All day folks walked by and laughed, Finally a guy walked up and laughed about 300 bucks worth !!!
Parsons Pickles and Bakery, makers of world famous "Dill Dough".
Century Steel Structures, "Our erections last a long time"

Enough of this silliness,,,,I gotta Pee!!!!![swg][swg][swg][swg]

I will use family/friend's names with a puny twist at times.
Such as: Cooley's Blue Ice (After my Grandfather Cooley), Van Lone Banking, and Sterling Silver (Grandmother's Maiden Name).

On the other hand, some will be real businesses like:
Dr. Foote, Podiatry (no kidding)
Stoddard's Store
Airgas

[:D]

Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO

We'll get there sooner or later!
