Hi,

Being new I am not sure if this is the appropriate place to inquire but here it goes. I have been trying, emphasis try, to increase the performnace of this loco, General. I'm probably the loco one but modeling the Civil Waris my era. Any suggestions on how to increase performance, especially for the slow runs.

Many thanks.

Actually you need to click on the "Post New Topic" icon to post a question of your own. Also check the Options box, below the message box, for "Notify me when a reply is posted" so you will get an e-mail notifying you that a reply has been posted for your question.

Now, about your locomotive. What is the scale and manufacturer? Most likely you may need to re-motor or re-gear or both if possible. But first, have you disconnect the motor from the gear box and roll the loco across a sheet of glass to see if the gears or side rods bind? With the motor disconected, the wheels should roll freely. Also if the drive shaft is a rubber hose, replace it with surgical tubing.
In the September 2003 issue of Model Railroader, you will find John Pryke's artical "Tune up your steam locos". He gives tips on how to keep your engines running well. John also has a book available, Steam Locomotives Projects & Ideas
