B Train Shorty in Action?
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, March 23, 2005 10:24 PM
The N scale motorised unit that Kato makes for the Bandai "B Train Shorty" cutesy little models is quite handy for a number of projects, but has anyone actually used it to power some B Trains? Any layout photos? Or T-Trak layouts? These could be really fun with some Godzillas stomping about.

Cheers,
Maureen

Only seen photos of Shays, trolleys, industrial switchers & other critters made from them. Never actually seen one in its native environment for its intended use.

A cat on the layout probably could do enough stomping around to do the trick. Put some catnip in the passenger compartment.

I'm getting more and more intrigued with these little cars and the possibility of doing a small modular system with subways, street tracks and elevated. Something a bit more involved than T Trak.

I've found a website with the car sets. Has anybody dealt with them, are they reliable?
http://www.1999.co.jp/asp/top_right104_e.asp?Bno=&Typ1_c=104

Or has anyone found a different source?

Also, has anyone found on line retailers who carry all three variants of the Kato motorised chassis for these?

Thanks,
Mo

I'd love to get my hands on some of these - first found out about them when Continental Modeller reviewed the drive units. www.mgsharp.com have at least one type of the drive units, though I've emailed them in the past suggesting they import the B-Trains themselves and had the response "sorry, we don't think there'd be much demand". To my knowledge there are the actual kits, powered chassis and unpowered trucks for trailer cars - now if only there was a UK importer...

Kato has 3 power chassis with different style trucks/bogies, with matching unpowered trucks/bogies. Fitting the unpowered trucks requires a bit of modification to the car.

11-105 (Unspecified type in product name, but older style Commuter Train 1)
11-099 (Commuter Train 1) unpowered

11-106 Express Train 1
11-098 Express Train 1 unpowered

11-107 Commuter Train 2
11-097 Commuter Train 2 unpowered

Cheers,
Maureen
