Manufacturers have to make some trade-offs or the locomotive would be so expensive that no one would buy it. While adding lit number boards might be relatively inexpensive and easy to implement, they have to stop somewhere.

Thanks for the info. Strange that such a "detailed" loco wouldn't have them lit, but I guess that's why it's called a model and not a replica! I used fiber optics on the classification lights on my F7A's and taillights on my F7B's, so I guess I could do the same on the E6's.

Hope this helps a little.

I have a pair of P2K E7s and neither have "directly lit" number boards. The light from the headlights and Mars lights leaks through to the number boards since the plastic locomotive shell is not thick.

A friend of mine with P2K E units is using Fiber Optics to run light from the headlights to the boards. Results look nice!

"I like my Pullman Standards & Budds in Stainless Steel flavors, thank you!"

Ok, here's my dumb question of the week.

Does anybody know if the Life-Like Proto 2000 Union Pacific E6A's have lighted numberboards? I know they have the Mars light, but haven't found any info on numberboard lighting.
