UPz up north
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, March 19, 2005 9:52 PM
Hello, i know this isnt really a model railroader topic but ide like to bring up an exciting expierence i had tonight, on the way home from dropping off my gf, she lives on the other side of town and the old lehigh Valley tracks divide our towns, we were following the tracks and my dad stated hey, whats that, litttle to my suprise of even seeing a train up north here, i noticed the road names on the engines, what we had was a Norfork Southern, leading two sd70macz or else dash 8z Union Pacific, i believe it was 2356 on the one engine, really didt have time to observe them, all pulling flat bed trailer carz, now im sure most of you arent from easton pa, but seeing union pacific engines, along with norfork southern engines around here is a big shock, but what makes this story even more ironic, is that my modelrailroad is set in northeast pa, and consists of union pacific diesel engines, leghigh valley, and the good old B&O , and it was almost a dream come true to see union pacific in this territory, which changes the prototypical status of my model Railroad

i've seen up power on csx along the hudson river line. i think railroads have an agreement that if they need extra power and another railroads locos are available they use them.

My nephew reported seeing a UP loco here in Quebec City, about a month ago.So I asked some railfanning experts at the club about this sighting and they confirmed that indeed a UP Dash 8 had been part of a consist leading a grain convoy from the west. Not a frequent sight here indeed but I've been told that many railroad companies have agreements that make any combination possible almost anywhere, although some less likely than others.
