dano99a, Rambo1 lives in Canada, and his $300 price is probably Canadian dollars.

rambo1, YES, a Proto 2000 with DCC and sound is worth the price. When you hear it, assuming that you have a DCC system, you'll be amazed if you haven't heard a QSI sound system previously.

I paid a LOT more than that for my BLI Hudson with QSI. Mind you, it was my first visit to that LHS, so I should not have expected any deals. He later cut 10% off my purchases, 'cuz I got into him for another $1500.

I looked at a DCC/Sound Proto 2000 2-8-8-2 decorated in Clinchfield, I saw it run back and forth on the test track at the train show today. I already have a undecorated model on order.

at $330.00 (MSRP 525.00) I think is a very good price for that quality. It was a nice runner. I think the bell won me over ding ding ding sing really fast instead of the fat "Clang clang clang" that gets annoying after a while.

I may end up with two of these engines despite my rule of not having more than one engine of anything except desiels.

They are definitely worth the cost. I got a GP-9 about one month ago and I love it. It cost about $179. In fact, it's nothing but DCC with sound for me from now on.

I have one the the GP9's and it sounds good. I suspect they are using the same sound decoder in both the P2K GP9 and BLI SD40-2 - I can hear a little 'turbo' whine when I crank up the throttle(The GP9 is a 'non-turbo' unit). The air horn & bell are very good. I have some BLI & Spectrum steamers with QSI/Soundtraxx units in them and really enjoy the sound! BTW, I paid about $170(US) for my MILW GP9. I really feel for Canadian modelers - exchange and lots of MSRP up there. Then you look at American prescription drug costs!

Well I've been TRYING to purchase one!

Ordered one from Caboose Hobbies and when it finally showed up, it was the correct box but it turned out the loco was neither DCC nor sound equipped. I sent it back for exchange but they didn't have anymore and so they credited my credit card.

Then I saw one online from Wholesale Trains and ordered it at $30 less than Caboose Hobbies wanted to charge. That's been just about three weeks ago and I still haven't received it. I checked my order status and it hadn't been shipped yet which tells me they don't have it in stock. I think they should have told me this before accepting my order.

Maybe one of these days I'll eventually be able to get one!
