What news about these great layouts??
Posted by Marc_Magnus on Saturday, March 19, 2005 12:15 PM
Hello from Belgium,

I have nearly all Model Railroader issues published since 1933....

Time to time I take a look at old issues and yesterday a read a issue with
a display of some big "historic model railroad".

Some like de GD , the VO and the Midland Road have dissapear, we know how.

But did anyone know what are become some layout like the O scale layout of Lorell Joiner featured in the eigthies and the N scale railroad of the Reid brothers which lay a new level in N scale scenery?

Here's a relatively recent website on the Reid Brothers' layout. Also, they were in great MR 2001 I believe.

I believe Model Railroader began in 1934. And you have every issue since 1933. Some of those may be quite valuable, hang onto them! LOL

Wit Towers Alturas and Lonepine was dissassembled upon his passing as he wished that his freinds had certain parts of the railroad. I believe ha outlived many of them but I am sure that only those who would have appreciated the sections received them.

I had a short time running the railroad with a group and it was difficult for Wit to give up the Alturas yard. There was much to learn from Wit and the design of the ALP.

Wow what a blast it was.

There is also a video available which Allen Keller produced at:

Some of the other layouts you recognize from your MR collection may also be on a Keller video. Check the site.

Finally, I know there was a video on the GD for sale a few years back, but don't know if it's still available or who it's from. The Alturas & Lone Pine also has a short video which you could order from Carstens (publishers of Railroad Model Craftsman) magazine, but I don't know it's still available, either.

Hope some of this is helpful to you.

what ever happened to the layout that Brian Kanis built? i think it was the Utah Western. Gandy Dancer productions made a video of it and the layout was in MR in 89 i think.

That is my all time favorite layout and it would be cool to know if it is still around.

I wonder how the new V&O is going, say with Tony Kosters NKP layout.
