The new Model Power Mike is made by Mantua, who obviously have improved their products from what they were 15 years ago. It's not heavier than the Rivarrossi Mike(I own one of each) so probably can't pull more, but is certainly leaps ahead in detail and fine running.

Thanks for the answers. ConCor steam seems to be expensive.

The RR engines have been plying their way thru bankruptcy for 5 years or so. ConCor would have liked to get ther hands on the dies but has been unable to do so. You may have caught some of the last runs from 10yrs ago.
In the meantine, there has been some release of the RR heavyweights in Arnold 3packs, sets A,B, C with a variety of cars. You may be lucky to find a set today! You may find a ConCor 6 pack set.
We have been so starved for steam that the RR steamers have been candidates for repowering to keep something running. The top steamers today are Bachmann's 2-8-0, the MDC/Athearn old timers, & Kato's Mike. Watch carefully the new Model Power offerings. Please try before you buy any steamer.

The Rivaroassi N scale steam hasn't improved, and hasn't even been made for several years. To the best of my knowledge, ConCor hasn't been sourcing from Rivarossi for some time. The new ConCor 2-10-2 is fairly well regarded, runs well, simplest DCC installation in all of N Scale steam, detail is good, but it is overpriced and they've had some apparent QC issues. It hasn't knocked the Kato Mike off the topspot yet, but the 2-10-2 has restored some credibility to ConCor.

ConCor Nscale question.

Years ago, about ten, I bought three Rivarossi steam engines which came in ConCor boxes. I didn't buy them all at the same time. The engines were top dollar but not good values. The best of them was mediocre running at best. Compared to today's LL Berkshire and Spectrum Consolidation, the detail was PITIFUL! I was wondering if today's Nscale ConCor steam engines listed in Walthers are Rivarossi . What are today's Nscale Rivarossi steam engines like? Are they still overpriced mediocre engines or has the quality and value been improved? A lot can change in ten years. Ten years ago there was not one decent Bachman Nscale steam engine on the market, now there are at least two. I believe it was nine years ago that Kato brought out its first run of Nscale Mikados. That was the first Nscale steam engine I bought that I was satisfied with. Actually I was way beyond satisfied with it.
