I own a MP Mikado like the one you plan on buying and it's a jewel...silent and smooth.

Model Power N scale metal Pacific

I ordered one of the new Model Power Nscale Pacifics and examined one yesterday at my LHS. It was a very smooth runner! It is selling there for $99. The detail is not nearly as good as on the LL Berkshire or the Spectrum Consolidation. Still, for the money I think it is a great buy. After I pay for my Pacific, I'll order one of the Model Power Light Mikados with Vanderbilt tender. I think it is nearly the same mechanism as the Pacific so it should be a great runner. Before I ordered the Pacific, I read an article in which the reviewer said he was able to get the locomotive to run a sustained 2 scale miles per hour without stalling. That sounded good enough for me. I tried out two identical 2-8-0s made by MDC. One ran much better than the other so, as is often said TRY BEFORE YOU BUY. I also ran and checked out a new Nscale Atlas Mogul. It was incredibly detailed and looked like it should be sold in a jewelry store. However, it was so light that I had to keep on tapping it to get it to pick up current from a dead stop. Absolutely beautiful looking but I think I'll pass on it.
