Allen Keller did a video in his Great Model Railroad series on Gary's layout a few years back.

Okay, I'm going to be a party pooper here. While I'm glad all is well with Gary and have enjoyed coverage of his layout in the past, I really don't go for the whole "backdating" thing. I know its what the modeller is interested in that matters, and that its good to always evolve and try new things, but to me once you go through all this to make a really good layout based on the modern era, why take it all apart, change everything, and in some cases completely start over just to model the past? Yes, I am more of a fan of the modern era, but I enjoy layouts based on the past also. I just don't seem to see the whole big thing with changing something like that. Besides, modern railroading has a lot more to offer, except steam locomotives. Like I said, this may not be a popular answer with some people, and not meant to insult or question Gary or anyone else who has done this, it is just my view on the subject.

Gary Hoover is alive and well, as his admirers will be happy to hear. He also has several publications coming up. We'll have an article about the last scene he completed on the MK&Q in the June MR, and then later this year we'll be featuring his new Santa Fe layout. His Dearborn Station scene will also be the cover subject of a special issue on modeling the 1950s that will also be published later this year. And he photographed a layout that will be featured in "Great Model Railroads" this coming fall.
so long,
Andy

I thought he died?????
I remember reading about his MK&Q layout in MR. and then about three issues later reading that he had died of a heart attack. I could be wrong about that though. If I am in error, please correct me.
James.

Based on the MK & Q , I can imagine the new one will be great. That was one of the nicest I can recall.

If I remember correctly, the last I read was that the MK&Q was going to be dismantled in favor of a 1950's era layout. I remember reading that probably about a couple of years ago. Haven't heard anything on how the new layout is progressing.

Does anyone know whats up with Gary. Does he have a website or any upcomings in any magazines. Anyone know where i can find some pics. His layout is awsome! I saw it in the GMR 1994. Him and Pelle Soebourg i think are the best (at least at western modern modeling). Thanks, Ben
