BLI 2-8-2 heavy mikado
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, March 13, 2005 4:52 PM
why does my brand-new BLI steam locomotive have a slight squeek? i oiled all of the brass bearings, runing gear and gear tower. i returned 1 because of a squeek and i got a second which has the same thing. does it just have to "wear in". i peice appears to be of extremly high quality. brass bushings, a huge 5 pole motor and a large brass flywheel; not to mention QSI sound equiped. which brings me to another question. i use a MRC prodigy (NOT ADVANCED) and i dont think i can run all of the individual sounds. any input would be helpful. Mabey its the trailing and/or tender truck axel bearings? Lube those up and see if it still squeeks.

Good suggestion Aggro. Also lube the leading and trailing truck axles and the pivots. My P2K 2-8-4 was squeaking at a certain point and driving me nuts. Finally figured out the tender was rubbing the engine vertical handrail (I shortened the engine to tender distance) and it was acting just like a violin string.
What could have happened.... did.

Mine squeeks when going backwards and I really haven't paid it much attention. I could be wrong I think your right in assuming the Prodigy will not run all the functions. But you'll find most of the sounds in the higher numbers are basically the same.
