Kato eh? Good choice - I'd run more of them if I could afford to. My brother has one of their N-scale Shinkansen (Bullet train) sets which is amazing - silent, smooth, very quick (just what you want on a Shinkansen!). Enjoy!

My first HO loco would be the Athearn SP SD9 that I bought back in 2001. It's still as the factory built it at the moment - have just fitted and painted the handrails. I plan to fit a DCC decoder, Kadees (in place of the factory E Z Mates) and ideally a few other detail parts at some point, as it's one of the best locos I have in terms of running qualities - this thing will out-creep a P1K loco on DC control, so what'll it do under DCC with a BEMF decoder...[:D]

Kato locomotives are very quiet, as are most quality HO locomotives - except the ones with sound systems.

I like it! I'm just used to my noisy O scale stuff (both of them) It is taking me a while to get used to the quietness and size of HO.. :)
BTW.. I hope you get lucky 13 soon!

I guess I passed another milestone today, I bought my very first HO locomotive.. a Kato EMD SD40. Most people here listed the brand as a good one, but there must be something wrong with mine. Is it supposed to be so ultra quiet..?[;)]
