GE 60-ton

If $45 is too much for your blood, try eBay: I have purchased 44 and 70 tonners there for around $20-25 each. Supposedly Bachmann is going to release a single-motor 70 tonner soon, which will be more reliable than the two-motor version.

From the look of them, a 60 tonner wouldn't be TOO hard to 'bash from a Bachmann Spectrum 70 tonner body--just cut a bit out of the hood, scoot the cab forward, and build a little "short hood" out of the bit you cut out of the main hood plus some styrene. Or you could bash a body out of a Hustler.

I'm unaware of any GE 60 tonners in any scale. I can make a recommendation for the 44T's, however. If you are willing to look, Keystone Locomotive Works did a first rate kit for the 44T in the mid 80's. They were etched brass hoods, brass frames and white metal cabs, end sills and hood ends. The drive was designed by Cliff Grandt, I believe. ( at least they RAN like a Grandt after you broke them in.) I built twenty years ago and it still runs great; I converted it to DCC several years back.

The trucks I used for the 132 ton are from a Proto 2000 SW9. They are a close match but not exact. I did not feel like scratchbuilding those as well as the entire loco. If you want the drawings I have I can send them via us mail. They are the dimensional drawings from GE's promo literature. some of the dimensions are not listed and have to be calculated but, it is a good starting place. Also if you do what I did and scale them down to HO size you can use cutouts as templates.

I have some plans for the 60 ton that came with the prints for the 25 ton that I am working on right now. I could send you a copy of them. They have the basic dimensions in full scale so you would have to convert them to HO or what ever scale you would be building. If you look through my site you will see that if you break these down into the basic components it is not too hard to scratch build these. I would even think that the basics of the frame and drive train that I built would work for the 60 ton engines.

as to the spectrum, it will have a custom paint job, and im not really an artist, so i dont really wanna screw it up, id rather screw up a $20 model, ya know?

I am not sure that anybody else makes any thing like this. You could always scratch build one. If you know of any plans or drawings available I may be interested in building a 60 ton once I get my 25 ton done.
