There are a couple shows fairly close to you. You missed one in Kittanning on Feb 20th, they have a couple a year. This month's MR has one in Altoona on Mar 13th, they also have a couple during Railfest in October, Also in MR- a couple in Pittsburgh on the 13th and the 19th, Versailles (south of Da Burgh) on the 13th, and one in Wilmeroing on the 2nd of April- Just can't figure out where it's at! 412 area code, but won't show up on Yahoo maps.
Also check out the ones in OH and WV, some are closer than you think!

Last show I caught in Jacksonville because someone bothered to post information about it on the Atlas forum. While there, I picked up a bunch of fliers for upcoming trainshows in central and northern Florida during the forthcoming year. I'll also be heading down to Deerfield Beach on April 2nd for their train show after hearing about it in the Atlas forum.

You just have to be diligent in the forums, check www.gats.com, and read the back of MR and RMC.

...and once you get to a train show, look for a table that has flyers for other upcoming shows in the area and collect the flyers. Any train shows I've been to that are worth going to make a table available for other groups to set out their flyers. It's a mutual back-scratching sort of deal.

Just type in Google "model train shows <yourstate or province>" and you'll get the listing.

Check the bulletin boards of your LHS...perhaps they know of a local show; check the NMRA site; GATS site...to name a few. Your local club may have additional information about shows/sales that don't get too much publicity.

Not just MR but most of all of the train mags have a listing of events. Many are cross listed on their web sites as well. Most train shows allow all types of trains to sold/displayed but many are tied to a particular organization like TTOS (Toy Train Operationg Society) and may only list their event in a 3 rail magazine. You might actually find better deals on scale stuff at these events vs ones aimed at the scale modeler, like say Timonium.

All of the ones around here are in MR, but that doesn't mean they ALL are - if the show organizers fail to submit the information to MR, it won't be listed. Of course, they'd be kind of dumb not to do so, it's free (or at least it used to be) and not advertising in the hobby's largest (circulation) magazine wouldn't be ver prudent on their part.

I don't know about up your way, but down in this end of the state there are shows in Allentown (just last week), Leesport, and Hamburg. Bit of a ride for you, and the Hamburg show is becoming overloaded with Lionel.

Definitely worth the trip, even for you, is Timonium.

In the Model Railroader Magazine there is a section called "up coming events" for each state and Canada that anounces up coming events in your state and city...another good source are flyers at your LHS advertising up coming events...chuck

I here people talking about trainshows, but I've never seen one advertised--just look at this cool loco I got last week.

I take it back. I heard of one in New Haven because of a flyer I got in a shipment.
