Plywood Paradise

If my layout is just plywood, then roadbed, then track, what is the easiest way to add scenery, do i put foam around the track? thanks, kevin

The plaster and hard shell enthusiasts might have a different idea, but I think you're onto the right idea. Depending on the thickness of foam available in your area, or how high you want your hills, you'd just glue pieces of foam down to the plywood, then continue to stack then to get the height you want, then rough form by cutting, sanding, using a surform tool, or a hot wire foam tool. No shortage of ways to shape it.

You can put a layer of plaster over the foam if you like. You can also put a layer of plaster with gauze, for added strength. Or you can simply paint the foam, and do without any plaster. Then you'd start to add some kind of ground cover, most commonly used is ground foam.

That's just a quick response. I expect you'll get some more detailed ideas.

Nope....Ed pretty much covered it all[:)] Adding a coat or two of premixed drywall compoound, which is available in small tubs, is a easy quick way to cover seems where the layers of foam are joined. Even a simple coat of paint will hide the seems in most cases, especially where the contour has been smoothed nicely.

Same idea here - layers of foam, "liquid nailed" together. Carve w/ surfoam tool and then slop on sculptamold. Finishing coat can be paint with texture in it. Give me rave reviews at the club.
