Replacement Wheels
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, July 28, 2002 5:17 PM
I have an old (~15yrs) Pemco 2-6-0 Mogul engine. Does anyone know where I can get replacement wheels for the tender? I dropped the engine and, fortunately, the only major injury was the flanges on the tender wheels. I can't find Pemco anywhere for support. The wheels aren't standard - two of the axels have driven gears on them. Thanks!

Tender drive? Finding new replacement wheels is going to be tough -- the engine is now sold by IHC but they changed the tooling to make it conventional drive I think.
I suspect your best bet is a swap meet (or a classified ad in MR, RMC or the NMRA Bulletin) and hope to find someone who dropped their engine too. Don't throw anything away until then.

Sorry, I am not familiar with this particular loco., but is it possible to transfer the drive gears to a new axle from another manufacturer and then use those wheels? Bowser have a range of metal wheels mounted on metal axles with the wheels insulated by small plastic bushes and are available for inside and outside bearings.
