HI, I HAVE SOME WALTHERS STRUCTURES, FREIGHT AND PASSENGER CARS AND THEY ARE GREAT. I SAW THIS ENGINE YESTERDAY, A WALTHERS TRAINLINE BNSF DASH 8. IT LOOKS OK, BUT IN GENERAL DO THEY RUN WELL? THEIR DEFINITLY NOT ATHEARN OR KATO BUT I DONT MIND, IT WORKS FOR ME. THANKYOU, BEN

I think I have that very same engine (the 4-axle version, right?). I'm still fairly new, and it was my first loco. I don't have a Kato or anything else to compare it to, and I can see that it doesn't have excellent detail. However, it seems to run pretty well, and gets the job done for me. I think I paid something like $45 for mine, and I think I got a pretty good deal. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with it. No troubles so far.

I have one of those - mine came by way of ebay and needed a little work to get it running again (broken front truck pivot, replaced with a small screw/bolt), now it's great - has had Kadees, MU hoses, and a Lenz DCC decoder fitted since, now crawls at very low speeds. Here's a photo:

They are not the top of the line or problematic. I have a pair of F40PHs and consider these on par
with P1K and above the bachmanns

I own 2 that are 9 years old. Work great, no problems nice slow speed. Both diesels.

I have a pair of Walthers Trainline GP-15-1's. I paid $35.00 each for them. They lack some of the intricate details you get with the higher priced locos, but they run every bit as well as my Athearn Genesis F3A and F3A&B sets. They also run as well as my Atlas Master Series GP-38's or even my Atlas Classic Series GP-7 & U23b, or my pair of Bachmann Spectrum F40PH's. To cure the lack of details, there is a company called Cannon & Company, who makes etched brass(and also plastic) details for most locos. I bought thier safety tread step kit for the Walthers Geeps, and after they were installed it makes them look like locos from a much higher price range. Sorry I don't have a web address for Cannon & Co. Good luck with your loco!!

Trainlines are not top notch, but are very dependable and run fairly smooth for the cost. My only problem is they tend to have a loose bolster-body rock when changing directions and the detail is a bit weak.
