Now that I can post photos again, I thought I would catch you up on my layout progress and why I haven't been as active on the forum. Click on picture for larger size.

Yard ready for business. Still a lot of detailing to do.

Someone on the forum said I had too much extra space, so I decided to fill it in. Besides, my passenger trains needed a home [:D]
There were 13 turnouts used in this area. The red thingy is a yard stick for perspective. The extension is 12 feet long and 30" wide. I will probably widen it some for the town of Mountain View.

Even without the rest of the scenic elements, it looks great! The coal mine looks really cool with all those hopper cars lined up under it [:)]

I may be new to the forum but I do know modeling skills when I se them. Your layout is Awesome. My layout is just about 15x20' but yours looks so much bigger than mine. It must be huh?

Grayfox, the main room size is 24x40 feet. This is a garage type building that has an adjoining building that is 16x40. I go out the wall to it for my 6" to 12" grade and will have a storage track area there. You are welcome to go to my picture site and see the updated layout plan.

Of course I would believe it Rex. When I first started drawing track plans, I always counted the switches, because I was worried about the cost. Now when I draw, I worry about function, and what looks and feels right. Needless to say, the latter method is more expensive, but you only live once. Buy on spec, and keep a stash on hand until you are almost out of real estate. Take a final count when the end is in sight. This will keep you out of the bind you were in last time.[swg]

Rex, how come you didn't use foam board on top of the plywood before you laid the track?

Here's another picture from Rex's layout. I would have posted this sooner but my computer crashed and I had to restore it over the weekend. Didn't lose any data but it sure was slow doing it.

As you can tell we both like the SRR. BTW the roadbed is WS Foam, not cork. The benchwork is definitely old school. You can get on it and walk without any problems at all.

The roadbed on the entire layout is WS foam roadbed. No need to add anything else. If you mean the large foam insulation sheets, I am sure that many swear by it for many uses. I just haven't been sold on using it. Maybe when I get back to the landscaping, I will try it in some areas.

I wi***hat I had covered the yard area completely with the large sheets of Woodland Scenics roadbed. It would have made the installation a lot easier. The use of single runs of foam roadbed in the service area are so the ground cover sculpting can be done easier working up than working down. What little ground cover is visible in the photo is temporary.

The photo CJ is showing is just an example of my remarkable skills at landscaping... Just kidding! Actually, it shows CJ's talent at using photo manipulation. That is his Old Queen with my New Princess.

A Southern 4-6-2 Pacific. That has to be my all time favourite! Too bad we couldn't convince one of the mjor manufactures to make one.
