I live way up here in the Pacific Northwest after moving from Hammond, Indiana, as a child. Therefore, my first love was always the Monon Railroad and, of course the Erie, which my grandfather was a passenger train conductor on. Also, my father helped me get my first American Flyer train set. At one time I worked at the old Pullman-Standard Co. in Chicago but now I'm at Boeing. As you all know, model railroading is, of course supposed to be a hobby but I was wondering if it could also be turned into a business, i.e., would anybody out there have a need for any model railroading services. For example, I think it would be really cool to sent up, for example, a non-profit business like an ontdoor and/or an indoor museum for children in the Seattle area. I suppost the first thing I should do is join a model railroaders club. Right?

and the list goes on and on. One thing I have seen that might work on a small scale would be going to schools and showing a small layout children could play with while learning a little history of railroads, products moved etc...An idea I had relates to my disappointment at the Portland GATS Show, I thought of building a layout over the course of the two-day event. This to show newcomers some of the basics of materials and techniques. If I can find other interested parties I may do this at the Western Train Show in Salem, OR when it rolls around this Oct.
